About Us

“Friends of Israel Firefighters” is a non-profit organization, established in March 2003, by a group of concerned citizens in Israel and the US. The organization began operations in Melbourne in February of 2006.

Our aim is to increase appreciation for the outstanding services provided by Israel's firefighters and to raise funds for the purchase of urgently needed equipment and facilities for Israel 's Fire & Rescue Services.

Israel 's firefighters are among the best in the world and their duties include:

• Providing the first response to any terror attack
• Dealing with incidents involving hazardous materials
• Rescuing victims trapped in automobile accidents
• Fighting fires in urban, industrial and forest areas
• Providing instruction on fire prevention

They perform an essential service for all citizens of Israel , and face increasing demands and challenges, but economic difficulties of the last few years have led to drastic budget cuts, and the Fire & Rescue Services are seriously short of equipment. They currently need 100 new fire engines, which can cost up to half a million dollars each. In addition many fire stations are in need of refurbishment or expansion, and some cities and towns require new fire stations to meet the needs of expanding populations, new industrial areas and new airports.
